Role overview
For our Health Program in Ethiopia we are currently recruiting a gynaecologist/obstetrician for Arba Minch Regional Hospital. The objective of the volunteer work is to transfer skill and knowledge particularly to the OBS/GYN department staff and generally to overall hospital staff. You'll assess the situation, and provide technical support that improves the service at GYN/OBY department. You'll support the development of standards and procedures for handling pregnant women in maternity waiting homes. You'll advice on the emergency obstetric care service. You'll support the facilities in setting up of key maternal health interventions. You'll mentor students and staff at practical training in the department to ensure skill transfer. All this in a setting, with limited financial resources and staff, that will challenge you're creativity and knowledge.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
You have a Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent). You followed specialty training in GYN/OBS and intensive care. You have a minimum of 2 years experience in GYN/OBS within a hospital setting. You are willing to commit to at least 12 months - 6 months is also acceptable.

There is access for internet, mobile service, public telephone and a post office. The hospital will provide shared office space, and basic office furniture and stationeries. It is advisable to come with your own laptop.
The national language is ‘Amharic’. The students and staff speak and understand English without any difficulty. When dealing with patients, the volunteer will be assisted by a translator (staff on Duty).
